Macedonian Wedding Traditions – The Best Wedding Photography in New Jersey

The most celebrated event in a couple’s life is their wedding day and it is not only true for that special Wedding day, but also for the many years that follow. Wedding photographers capture these unforgettable memories in the form of photography and video capturing to honor their extremely special wedding event. Many times, it is also important to them to keep family traditions and national traditions alive during their wedding day.

The Macedonian Americans are one of the many people who, to this day, still celebrate many the wedding traditions from their earlier generations. The day before the wedding ceremony, the guests and family feast and dance. Finally, the next morning, relatives and close family members get together at the groom’s house for the groom-sharing ritual. The godparents are called the kolak and kvas. They together ceremoniously give the groom his last shave as a single man. The guests and other family members sing, dance and feast.

During the wedding ceremony, the bride and groom participate in the “breaking of the bread” celebration. This is used to determine who will “wear the pants” in the new marriage. After the wedding ceremony, the males perform the Macedonian Pig Dance at the reception. They carry bottles of wine, forks, and knives, and dance into the reception carrying a roasted pig. The men dance, shout, and whistle in front of the kym and kyma, demanding a “payment” for the feast, and continue to dance until they are satisfied with the amount paid.

Many of these traditions are from the earliest tribes of Macedonia, but people today still celebrate them. Traditions are what make your wedding day a meaningful and unforgettable event that you can relive for the rest of your life.
